11 Random Things About Me:

Right Click to View Larger
1. I used to be hard core carnivore -- now I am hard core herbivore.  My whole family was and is, in fact. Several years ago a friend introduced my Brother and I to the Paleolithic Diet/Lifestyle (for athletes) and we loved it. This lifestyle coupled with our lifting workout routines, we almost immediately saw [physical] results. For the first time in my life, my body was ripped and I was addicted to complex simplicity of the human body -- the science is incredible! I ended up going on a less than healthy hiatus, then coming back to my senses I did full body cleanses, and ended up learning about the major benefits of living raw/vegan. Stuck between two beliefs, I did't know how to proceed. Then the unexpected happen. A family medical emergency shifted gears for us making the decision clear. My entire family is now living a Raw, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Sugar-Free lifestyle. This life changing medical scare drives our strict nutritional decisions now, and the wealth of information I have gathered since that day will be shared on this blog ten-fold in future posts -- I promise!

2. In addition to being a 'hard core carnivore' in my previous life, I was also a 'hard core coffee drinker.' I used to work for two five diamond hotels and my average work day varied from 12-15 hours, six to seven days a week -- so I had a very serious relationship with my beloved java. However, now I am a 'hard core tea lover' since I quit drinking coffee on the spot November 1st, 2011. I prefer naturally caffeine-free teas, but while I am still learning this new area in my nutritional journey, I am open to being adventurous. I favor all green teas, and will always order a Genmai Cha with a splash of almond or coconut milk. Thanks to my bestie, Christina, I was introduced to DAVIDsTEA... and it is safe to say: I'm obsessed. My other favorite is Mighty Leaf Tea -- check these two out if you are interested in trying quality tea!

3. I may qualify as a professional female nomad! I moved from my home (Maui) to California where I lived for about four years, then moved to Alabama for almost two years. I finally made it back home (Maui) the beginning of 2011, only to move again in December 2011. This family medical emergency has brought us to Seattle, which is my Dad's original home and most if not all of his family is still here. While I never thought I would ever live in this state, I am already blessed by seeing my family on a regular basis -- and there is nothing sweeter than that. It's unfortunate it took such a reality check to get us back here, but God has His ways, doesn't He?

4. I feel guilty for not wanting children right now. It's true, I'm a hot mess, so it is better for everyone I feel this way, but seriously... every time I find out a friend is pregnant I instantly think, "I'm so glad I'm not!" -- There I said it!! Sure, nearly all my friends are pregnant or already have children and I am so happy for them -- but I am beyond content being Auntie JenJen... I suppose I feel this way, too, because there is so much I want to do with my man before kids, and I really don't want to have kids before marriage. I'm very traditional in the sense: graduate college/complete higher education, get married, purchase home, then contemplate starting a family. That being said, there are several years on the horizon before children is even a topic of discussion!

5. I am obsessed with photography. However, the only camera I have had for the last three years (at least!) is my iPhone, so you wouldn't really know it! I always had a camera growing up, and in intermediate I took a summer photography course. I learned everything I know from that amazing teacher and was able to discover my style. I've been wanting to purchase the Canon 5d Mark ii since it was released -- watch this video to find out why!!

6. In 2008, I bought a 1965 VW Convertible Bug sight unseen. Have I shared this already? Having one of these cars had been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember -- my parents owned several, my Uncle worked on them, one of my Cousins still has hers, and nothing was going to stop me from purchasing this classic. I found her in Chattanooga, TN and arranged a covered-transport to California. The tax in California is RIDIC, and I knew I was moving back to Maui, so I never "legalized" my love bug. I illegally took her for a cruise here and there when my day needed a "pick-me-up" and in 2009, I finally shipped her to Maui... only I was in Huntsville, Alabama at the time! Ironic, right? Only 1.5 hours from where I originally found her! In September 2011, I "legalized" her, ordered personalized plates and less than 30 days later found out I would be moving to Seattle. Refusing to fire-sale her, I shipped her to Seattle... why yes, where we just experienced Snowmageddon 2012! Very thankful she has been in a friends heated garage... It breaks my heart to say this, but I'm almost certain I will be selling her...

Ohhh, and those personal plates? They finally came in.. That's nice.

7. My all-time favorite "celebrity" has always been (and will probably always be) Leonardo DiCaprio. I was obsessed with him in my younger years and as we both grew into adulthood I admired him even more by his professional decisions. Sure, he only seems to date models -- but he's definitely on my list.

8. A friend of mine just told me about Voxer-- if you have a Droid or iPhone, download this app right now! It is soooo much fun!! Voxer allows you to send audio, text, and photo messages to one or more friend at a time instantly. For me, this is especially awesome because now I can keep in touch with my long-distance friends even more--including those international pals!  Visit Voxer's website for more info, but if you're familiar with WhatsApp -- it's basically like that app, but with more features!

9. Another fantastical app you should download right this second is the Happy Cow app! If you're not vegetarian, vegan, or raw though... don't bother -- otherwise it's totally worth the $$!! If you don't already know, "Happy Cow's Compassionate Healthy Eating Guide provides a worldwide directory of vegetarian restaurants and natural health food stores with peer reviews. Browse Happy Cow's database with listing in over 100+ countries. Also find vegetarian and vegan recipes, an up-to-date events calendar, travel and health tips, raw food information as well as a lively online community." #Winner This app was key to our B.C. trip a few weeks ago!

10. I'm not going to spoil the fun of a future post, but my boyfriend and I met in Sin City during Spring Break, March Madness, on St. Patrick's Day. It ended up being a trip I almost didn't go on because of work, and we met on our very last night! How he got my number is long story I can't wait to share!

11. I can't wait to get to know this beautiful city I now live in.. While looking for a place to live is very educational, I would much rather settle somewhere and then explore with less strain. Not to mention all the wonderful things to do here -- the adventures will be endless and of course documented here!

Im doing Paleo now. Im loving it but limiting the proteins to eggs and fish. Im still totally struggling with sugar but the effects of even slight change were monumental!

Such fun to read! Can't wait to read the story of you and you M.A.N. meeting, I am a sap for love stories! I'm going to check out the Happy Cow app since I'm trying to move more toward vegetarian/vegan. Your bug is adorable! I always wanted one too, but with 4 kiddos it's not practical!

This was a really fun post!!! I can't wait to hear the followup story about you and your man meeting in Vegas!

I so badly wish I could sick you on my friend, Becky. She's really into the paleo lifestyle, and I keep telling her those FOUR hardboiled eggs she eats for breakfast every morning along with allllllllll that red meat is gonna come back to bite her in the rear end. She just can't see past the visible physical results. And I gotta give it to the girl--she looks GREAT!!!!! I just know what she's doing to her insides. :(

Eeeeek, I'm tagged! I'll have to really think on these!
