The Grinch?

I think I may be coming across as quite The Grinch this year with my lack of Christmas posts, spirit and cheer. I suppose this can be justified with my family's current circumstance, or the fact that I've packed up everything I own into a 40-foot container that will be somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean over Christmas.. So how about a lil Christmas Questionnaire I randomly found somewhere in the blogosphere. If you'd like to join in on the fun, link your post below:)

1. Eggnog or hot chocolate?
Every year I forget what eggnog tastes like or if I even like it, but my Brother cannot stop raving about the So Delicious Nog. I have not tried it yet, but I just get the feeling it is nothing short from amazing. Plus, it's Vegan. Winner!

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?
Oh my goodness, of course they are wrapped! However, so far we are tree-less, and if gifts are even exchanged, they are likely to not be wrapped. Sad, I know. But that part of Christmas is really for the children, in my opinion.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
I'm a huge fan of white lights on the house -- it looks super classy in my opinion, and soft on the eyes. I'm not opposed to multi-color lights on the tree; however in the most recent years it's been either white or blue, maybe even both one year.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
I usually hang mistletoe -- fake mistletoe since I don't want to kill the dog, but it still counts;) I'm notorious for hanging 'em all over, too, so always look up in my house!

5. When do you put your decorations up?
I have never put up Christmas decorations before December 1st and doubt I ever will. My Dad's birthday is December 2nd and traditionally we have always gone Christmas Tree shopping on his special day:)

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
I used to LOVE the green bean casserole and stuffing; however now that I'm raw/vegan/gluten-free and soy-free I'm going to have to determine a new favorite:)

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
The last several Christmas' have been tough on my family due to multiple moves and economic times, so I am definitely thankful for all the happy memories we have had in years past. Christmas was always like a second Thanksgiving for us, which always involved tons of good food, football, and a few hours at the beach with the family.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
My Brother is four years older than me, so I learned the truth about Santa at a very young age. However, I vaguely remember my Mom sharing with me the story about the real St. Nick, and how he was thrown in jail. There are several versions of this story online -- google it!

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
On my Dad's side of the family everyone would get together on Christmas Eve for a huge dinner. After dinner all the kids got to open gifts from the aunties, uncles, and grandparents. Picture children swimming in a living room of wrapping paper! When we got home our parents always let us pick one small gift under the Christmas tree to open before bed.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
Only God knows how most of our ornaments survive each year -- It's usually a mix-match of collected ornaments over the years. For me, it's all about the lights -- they have to be perfect or the tree looks completely off!

11. Snow! Love it or dread it?
As much as I am a beach bunny, I am quite the snow bunny, so "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!" I'm of course freezing my arse off from time to time, but so far I've been dressing the part and can't complain! I will say though, if it's going to be freezing it better be snowing!!

12. Can you ice skate?
I can--and I love it! I don't have the confidence to spin and do tricks, but I can definitely skate in circles and have a good time on the ice:)

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
I have had several amazing gifts so lets go as far back as I can remember being the first of several favorite gifts... When I was seven or maybe 10(?) my parents customized my very first short board and I couldn't have been more excited! Prior to that amazing custom surfboard I borrowed from friends or used a beater. A much needed and very much appreciated gift for sure!!

14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?
By all means sharing it with family and friends--they are my heartbeat. I'm also very traditional and enjoy celebrating those annual traditions and celebrating the true meaning of CHRISTmas.

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Raw Pumpkin Pie -- hands down! I will be making this year round, probably.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
One of my family's traditions is listening to Kenny G's Holiday Miracles CD while opening presents. Laugh if you will, but whenever I hear that CD all my senses are enveloped in Christmas! I love it!

17. What tops your tree?
We have always had two trees; the main tree ALWAYS has a star, and the second tree (downstairs or in another living room) usually has a Santa hat!

18. Which do you prefer: giving or receiving?
I love giving. Seeking out that perfect gift for someone is such a fun task to me and is almost as fulfilling as seeing his or her face light up with utter excitement when unwrapping the gift. While I love receiving gifts, too, it's always an awkward thing for me, since I'm usually the giver!

19. Candy canes: yuck or yum?
Purely decoration - unless there is a raw/vegan recipe, my body will forever be candy cane-less!

20. Favorite Christmas show?
I love ALL the classic Christmas movies -- I always try to find them on TV and have them playing in the background even if I'm not actually watching them.

21. Saddest Christmas song?
I honestly did not know how to answer this one--then I remembered this song I heard on the radio recently. I don't think it is a Christmas song, but it's seriously the saddest song I've heard in a long time. So sad in fact, I don't even like it! Have you heard "I'm Gonna Love You Through It"" by Martina McBride? If you have ever lost someone super close to you from breast cancer, or any type of cancer for that matter, you probably know what I'm talking about.

22. What’s your favorite Christmas song?
My favorite Christmas song is definitely O Holy Night by Uncle Willie K. I also love Emanuel by Amy Grant and of course Michael W. Smith's version...you can see them jam this song together here!

And because Jesus is the Reason for the Season ~ All Seasons really, please enjoy this very special song that gets tears in my eyes almost instantly....

I wish you all a very Merry CHRISTmas!

My mom always let us open one gift on Christmas eve, probably to shut us up.

I remember one year I opened up an umbrella. AN UMBRELLA. I was so pissed.
