Heiva i Maui [Tahiti Fête 2011]

Today and tomorrow has me so giddy, I literally feel like a little kid waking up Christmas morning...

Today and tomorrow marks the 14th annual Tahiti Fête, a dance and drumming competition organized by Maui Polynesian Tahiti Fête Organization, which is a Non-Profit Organization that was established in 1997. Saythatfivetimes! The purpose is to create and sponsor programs, festivals, workshops, and special functions for our community for all ages and ethnicities.

If you are on Maui, I highly recommend experiencing this once a year cultural event held at the War Memorial in Wailuku.

In addition to incredible entertainment, vendors from all over the Pacific will be selling tons of delicious food, and Polynesian merch including Tahitian pearls (yes, please!) and other island-inspired jewelry, clothing, accessories, and the one thing I can never get enough of: pareus...

Every year, I spend way too much money at the Tahiti Fête, and it is so worth it! This year I'm on a mission: black and yellow. Think something like the pareu on the table in the photo directly above this text.

Doors open at 10AM on both days with open ceremonies; however, solo competitions are today only! If you want to watch solo dancers, you must go today...

Sunday includes additional group competitions and closes with the award ceremony.

Presale tickets are $10 and may or may not be available at the following locations:

Sew Special @ Queen Ka'ahumanu Center
275 West Kaahumanu Avenue
Telephone: 808-877-6128

Sew Special Too @ Azeka Market - Makai
1280 South Kihei Road
Telephone: 808-874-8050

Lahaina Music
910 Honoapiilani Hwy, Suite 9
Telephone: 808-661-7625

In the event all the above locations are sold out, it is $15 at the door, and children 5 and under are free. For additional information visit Heiva i Maui's website, or call 808.990.6549.

If you can't make it today, don't fret. Vendors will be there tomorrow as early as 8AM conducting business and want to sell as much, if not all of what they have left. Eat your heart out!

Here are some of the things I will no doubt break my piggy-bank for...

Lihau
This is what sexy looks like in the Islands!
Mahana
I would definitely wear this everyday. One in every color? OK!
Short Nanea
LOVE this design and color combination
Kaloko
[duh] it's orange -- of course I want it!
Haunani
It's a simple staple dress - I love the design - any color will do!
Are you looking forward to anything this weekend?
